Guy-Paul Gagné MD, FRCSC, FSOGC
Dr Gagné is currently MOREOB (Managing Obstetrical Risks Efficiently) Program Director for the province of Québec in collaboration with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC). He graduated from Sherbrooke University Faculty of Medicine and from McGill University in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada
His previous positions include: Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at LaSalle General Hospital (Montreal) and Coordinator of the Teaching and Continual Medical Education Program for 16 years. He has 30 years of experience in clinical practice, teaching, administration and research in maternity care. Dr Gagné has build his department on the principles of Family and Patient Centered Care. He collaborated with Health Canada and the Canadian Institute of Child Health in the writing and reviewing of the Family-Centered Maternity and Newborn Care-National Guidelines, 4th Edition, a document to assist hospitals and other health care agencies in the planning, implementation and evaluation of maternal and newborn programs and services. As a former member and chair of the Clinical Practice Obstetrics Committee of the SOGC, he participated in the production of Healthy Beginnings: Guidelines for Care during Pregnancy and Childbirth and on the Policy Statement on Rural Obstetrics. He organized the first practical (hands on) hospital rotation for midwifes with the Quebec University in Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and he led the establishment of the first hospital midwifery practice in the province. He was honoured with the Medical Leadership Award of the Quebec Hospital Associations and the Award of Excellence from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada in recognition of a lifelong devotion to obstetrics and gynaecology, and the provision of optimal women’s health through leadership, advocacy, collaboration, outreach, and education.
